History of Dyson Vacuums

The Dyson vacuum was invented in 1978. James Dyson was cleaning his country home when he realized that his top of the line vacuum was just not getting the job done! It was constantly clogging and just didn't have the sucking power to handle tough jobs. Dyson set out on a mission to create his own top of the line vacuum cleaner. 5 years, thousands of prototypes, and countless hours of work later, Dyson unleashed his first vacuum to the public.

Dyson offered his new vacuum to a large number of investors and one by one they all turned their backs on him. They seemed determined to continue to sell vacuums that required bags, because the industry for selling bags was a multimillion dollar giant. Years later, the Vice president of the Hoover vacuum company would admit that he regretted passing up on the Dyson technology.

James Dyson would set out to manufacturer the cleaners on his own. In 1993 he set up shop near his home in England and began research and development. His work would pay off when he released the first Dyscon Cyclone vacuum cleaner.

In under 2 years, Dyson was the top selling vacuum in the UK! The competition would try to shut Dyson down, and then admit defeat and try to copy the Dyson model of bagless vacuums. Countless years and countless court battles over patent infringement, James Dyson continued to come out on top - including court victories over Hoover.

It's been many years since James Dyson first came up with the idea for his bagless vacuum, yet he still continues to innovate. The Dyson vacuum continues to evolve and remains the top selling bagless vacuum on the market.
